My Journey
I was born and raised in Almaty and began my career in tourism more than 28 years ago as an English-Russian translator on mountain trekking expeditions.
For three years I spent every summer season in the mountains, often leading or supporting treks lasting up to 63 days. During spring and autumn I worked on botanical, ornithological, horse-riding and cycling tours. Eventually, I became a professional guide, leading both private tours and groups of up to 26 people.
Those years gave me invaluable experience, unforgettable adventures and the opportunity to explore some of the most remote corners of my country. I visited places that are difficult to reach even today, including the Inylchek Glacier at the foot of Khan Tengri (7,010 m) and Pobeda Peak (7,439 m). Inylchek remains one of my favourite places in Kazakhstan.
Understanding Travelers' Dreams
Later, I founded an outbound travel company for Kazakhstani travellers wishing to explore the world. This experience taught me the importance of careful trip planning, attention to detail and, most importantly, listening to people. Every traveller has different expectations and dreams, and creating memorable journeys means understanding those wishes and turning them into reality.
My work also allowed me to travel extensively. I attended major international tourism exhibitions in Berlin, London and New Delhi, while also exploring the world for myself. I have swum with sharks in Thailand, learned to surf in Sri Lanka and India, completed a diving course in Cyprus, experienced night diving in the United Arab Emirates and enjoyed gourmet journeys through Italy.
Kazakhstan: A World of Contrasts
The more countries I visited, the more I appreciated my own homeland. I realised how fortunate I am to live in a region where such extraordinary diversity of landscapes and climates exists within a relatively short distance.
In less than half an hour from Almaty, you can take a cable car into the mountains and hike to one of the closest glaciers to the city. Drive towards Charyn National Park and you will discover several completely different canyons — from the famous Castle Valley to landscapes that feel like scenes from Jurassic Park, where you almost expect a pterodactyl to appear overhead. Camp beside a river in a relic ash forest, continue a few hours further and find alpine lakes reminiscent of Switzerland. If you prefer warmer climates, you can explore the desert, climb the Singing Dune, admire the colourful Aktau Mountains and the Ili River. Or relax in natural hot springs. And if you wish to experience the nomadic heritage of Kazakhstan, visit the Assy Plateau, where white yurts dot the landscape like giant mushrooms and the vast open steppe stretches to the horizon.
From Office to Nomad Life
Nature kept calling me back.
Eventually, I left the office behind and returned to what I truly love. Today I work as a driver, guide, translator and camp cook — all in one. I enjoy a nomadic lifestyle, waking up in a different place almost every day, spending my time outdoors, walking through forests and deserts, and sleeping under star-filled skies.
As someone once said: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Our Family Business
As tourism in the Almaty region continued to grow, it became impossible to manage everything alone. I invited my brother to join me. He and his wife had spent years travelling across the world on motorcycles, including many journeys throughout Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. He purchased a Toyota Land Cruiser and happily transformed his passion for travel into a profession. His wife soon joined the team as well.
My son and niece assist when additional language support is needed, providing translation in American English and French. Over time, what began as a personal passion evolved into a small family business.
When our tours are over, we often return to the very same places with our children, parents and friends — this time simply to enjoy them ourselves.
